spring break.....wha?

Alright so the science day on Monday was a blast.....definitely started spring break off well. We had tons of fun playing with our Dreamers! They totally rock and are total angels. We plan as a group to continue interacting with them.
So the preceding days of spring break were pretty ok until the weekend. I worked two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) that was pretty cool I miss work the weeks I have Apprentice meetings. But really I don't mind too much. However I did find out that I missed a 2 cement pours this week...and for any of you that don't know....I LOVE cement pours. So that was sad that the 2 days I should have been available to be at the pours I had Apprentice meetings and such. O the sacrifices we make. So missing the pours was a bummer but Thursday and Friday were very product despite not being at work.
Thursday was pre-meeting meeting, meeting and post-meeting meeting. I am REALLY starting to dislike meetings! RARR! lol
Then there was Friday...........................disappointment is all I have to say about that.................
After the judging at CH2MHill I headed to Fort Collins to get some needed away time pretty much the only day of my spring break that felt like a spring break. We made dinner...full of foods from our childhood and laughed all night long. Saturday morning was filled with awesome breakfast at the Rainbow Cafe, walking the CSU campus, riding bikes and looking at randomness clothes shops.
When returning to Denver I ran some errands and then helped my boyfriend sand and stain some wood for custom bookcases he is making for a teacher friend of mine. Saturday night.... was spent at the Cowboy Lounge dancing it up! We had an audience and rocked the house. It was awesome until it started getting REALLY crowed.....two birthday parties, several after the game parties and one bachelorret party! Man! too many drunk people for me. So we took off just for kicks to wonder the Ritz-Carlton..............No rooms were rented! So don't even think it. We just looked at the chandlers and asked about the most expensive rooms! $3000 a night might I add!
Well its Sunday now and there is no more time to procrastinate! I have spring break homework that is due this week that I haven't even looked at! What a deal!
So yah along with the many activities that filled this week there were other factors that made the week more stressful but this is not the time nor the place to discuss those matters.
I have probably bored you all by now......I have rambled enough so I will close this ridiculously long blog and head to Church.

Slacking!

I know I know...I am a slacker! I should be blogging more but being and English major it is hard to find time to keep up with blogs! So here we go!

Project 2 was fun. I enjoyed organizing the tool drive! My favoirte part was talking to the Construction company I work for about any donations they would be willing to make. So Thanks to GH Phipps! They donnated several tools and safty equiptment. However, I was kind of disapointed we didn't win. But ultimatly that isn't what matters. Its the experience of helping a corperation get closer to their goals and helping out in any way we can.

I am SO stoaked about project 3! Our group of Dreamers are AMAZING! I've only met them once and I can't wait to talk and play with them some more! I love sixth graders! They are at the age where they are starting to realize they have more independence but will still do what their teacher asks with out too much questioning.....in other words they still see their teachers as an authority figure! :)

Alright, so it is past this red head's bed time.....yah yah I know it's early for a college student but I value sleep. I am no good to any one if I am sleepy. So 'til next time......night all

Reflections.......

Alrighty so Project 1 is over and we are on to Project 2. Now I must say that Project 1 went really well. Granted my team didn't win but I still feel we worked really hard. It was really stressful trying to balance school work, work, and apprentice work! However, I think I time manage better when there is LOTS to do.
Now, Project 2, when I origonally heard the idea I was not as excited as I could be. However after our meeting on Friday I am TOTALLY stoked! I can't to start working with El Centro Humanitario. The A-Team already has great ideas....and are hard at work..........can't give our deatails....so you all will just have to wait and see.

My Bio

Ashley Gilchrist

Name: Ashley

Hometown: Denver

Major: English and Secondary Education

Minor: Spanish

Favorite class: Young Adult Literature

Background:
I am a Colorado native and love going to school in the heart of the city. I love being outdoors and reading. I have wanted to be a teacher since the third grade. I can't wait to make a difference in this world....one student at a time. Along with going to school, I work construction and am a laborer for Gerald H. Phipps. I like construction, but my passion is teaching English and literature. One of my dream jobs is teaching English in a different country.

Favorite quote:
"We read to know we are not alone."
– C.S. Lewis

Why I’m excited about being part of “The Apprentice Challenge @ Metro State”:
I am excited to be part of the Apprentice Challenge because I want to work with nonprofit organizations in Denver. I want to see what kind of an impact we can make on our state. I think it will be a really unique experience. I also look forward to working with students who I probably would have not met otherwise.

Why I should win “The Apprentice Challenge @ Metro State”:
I should win because what I learn from this experience will be put back into the community. I plan to be a teacher in DPS, so what I learn will be transferred on to my students. I want to be able to use my knowledge and connections to further my future students’ education.
